How to Get Leather in Deep Dish Dungeon

Find your first Leather, save one piece for the Workbench, and use Rat hides to make more.

1. Find the first Leather in the sewers

  1. Leave the first campsite, reach the large hall and set your respawn point at its sleeping bag.
  2. Get ready for the sewers. From the hall, turn the water-control wheel behind the stairs, then use a Rope on the upper wall spike to descend. Follow the Hammer route for the exact approach.
  3. Search the small chests as you explore the sewers. Check the one near a Bone Club for 2 Leather; if your run has different loot, search the remaining sewer chests and deeper rooms.
  4. Take the Leather into your inventory. This is important: obtaining Leather is what makes its Workbench recipe available.
  5. Save at least 1 Leather. You need it to make your first Workbench. Do not spend both pieces on a Pouch or a second Backpack before building your crafting station.
  6. If you cannot find the Bone Club chest or it has different loot in your run, keep checking other sewer chests and the deeper dungeon. You can find additional Leather farther in.

2. Make your own Workbench

  1. Collect 1 Log. In the hand Crafting menu, turn it into 3 Wood Planks.
  2. Collect 2 Iron Rods from dungeon supplies and containers. Keep these separate from rods needed later for prison mechanisms.
  3. Keep 1 Leather from your first pickup.
  4. Open the hand Crafting menu and choose Workbench.
  5. Craft the Workbench with 3 Wood Planks + 2 Iron Rods + 1 Leather and place it in a convenient camp location.

Build your own Workbench with these materials before processing Rat hides into more Leather.

3. Catch two Rats and turn them into Animal Hide

  1. Search for Rats moving around low rubble and dungeon rooms.
  2. Put away the Torch, crouch, and approach slowly. Running toward a Rat usually makes it flee under debris.
  3. Catch a Rat. Open the hand Crafting menu and process 1 Rat into Raw Meat. You also receive 1 Animal Hide.
  4. Repeat with a second Rat so you have 2 Animal Hide.
  5. If you keep losing the Rats, craft a Rat Trap from 3 Sticks, set it where Rats gather and collect the catch later.

4. Make Leather at the Workbench

  1. Return to your Workbench with 2 Animal Hide.
  2. Interact with the Workbench and find the Leather recipe.
  3. Select the recipe to turn 2 Animal Hide into 1 Leather.
  4. Repeat the process when you need more Leather for equipment or camp improvements.

The Workbench makes Leather; the hand Crafting menu is where you process the Rats. Opening the wrong crafting menu is a common reason the expected recipe does not appear.

5. Fix a missing Leather recipe

  1. Check that you're interacting with a Workbench, not a Cooking Table.
  2. Make sure your character has picked up Leather at least once. Animal Hide on its own does not reveal the Leather recipe.
  3. In co-op, the teammate who collected Leather may have the recipe while you do not. Let that player craft for you, or have them pass you a piece of Leather to pick up.
  4. If you already spent all your early Leather without building a Workbench, search further sewer chests or deeper loot for another piece before trying again.

6. Choose what to make with Leather

ItemLeather requiredOther ingredients
Workbench13 Wood Planks + 2 Iron Rods
Cooking Table12 Wood Planks
Backpack12 Ragged Cloth + 1 Rope
Pouch (made at Workbench)22 Vines

Best first move: build your Workbench with the first Leather you find. That lets you replenish Leather from Rats instead of depending entirely on chest loot.
