Getting started

Deep Dish Dungeon Early Walkthrough: Camp to Tomato Gem

Follow the opening route from the first campsite through the prison and claim the Tomato Gem.

1. Cook, eat and climb out of the first camp

  1. Collect the nearby Apples and Mushrooms. Add fuel to the campfire and roast them on the Rotisserie.
  2. Take the cooked food off before it burns, eat and use the fountain for another food effect.
  3. Climb the pillar to the left of the campfire, cross the rocks and enter the next area.
  4. Cross the plank, pick up the key under the broken pillar and unlock the door beyond the stairs.

2. Set a safe return point in the main hall

  1. Find the hall's campfire, sleeping bag and storage chest.
  2. Use the sleeping bag to set your respawn point; do this before entering the sewers.
  3. Store unnecessary items and make a Rope from 2 Vines + 1 Stick.
  4. Take a torch, food and free inventory space. Keep any Coal and Scrap Metal you find for the forge.

3. Drain the sewer route and collect the Hammer

  1. Turn the wheel behind the hall stairs to lower the water.
  2. Find the high wall spike, attach your Rope and descend.
  3. Past the lower door, turn left, then right to another wheel. Use it and follow the drained path.
  4. At the next junction, take the left branch, climb a ladder and look for the pipes high above the passage.
  5. Recover stamina before swimming past the eel. From the far side, turn around and climb onto the rusty overhead pipe.
  6. Crouch along the pipe; crouch-jump over the raised section and drop into the Hammer room.
  7. Pick up the Hammer and strike the rusty metal barrier to open the exit.

If the Hammer seems inaccessible, it is the pipe above the water, not the far shore, that completes the route. See Hammer / Break Bars.

4. Use the Big Smelter to make two different keys

  1. Return to the hall. Take the basement stairs to the right of the large doors and break the rusted gate with the Hammer.
  2. Search the forge rooms for fuel, scrap and molds. Note the oversized keyhole near the basement route.
  3. The Big Smelter starts with one key mold fitted. Add 5 Coal below and 8 Scrap Metal above, then pull its lever and collect the key.
  4. Find the larger mold in the nearby forge rooms. Carry it to the Big Smelter rather than trying to store it in your backpack.
  5. Fit the larger mold and cast a second key with another 5 Coal + 8 Scrap Metal.
  6. Use the key made from the large mold on the oversized basement lock. Keep the other forged key for the side room ahead.

Remember which mold made each key: the original forge mold opens the side room; the larger mold opens the oversized basement lock. Use the forging guide if you need to retrace the steps.

5. Retrieve the Prison Key beside the Jaguar Door

  1. Enter the corridor beyond the oversized basement lock. Watch for a bat on the route.
  2. Continue to the Jaguar Door, recognisable by its three Key Piece sockets.
  3. Leave the Jaguar puzzle for later. Take the right-hand door and use the other forged key to open it.
  4. Handle the skeletons in the room and open the chest at its far end.
  5. Take the Prison Key and return to the main hall.

The Jaguar Door and its Silver Dagger are an optional treasure branch at this stage.

6. Find a Small Key and enter the prison

  1. From the hall, climb upstairs and take the left route into the cave.
  2. Follow the ruined structures to the chest at the far end for a Small Key, then return upstairs.
  3. Go left and left again, move the large wooden plank across the gap and cross the bridge you made.
  4. Open the first door with the Small Key and descend the spiral stairs.
  5. Hold a lit torch in your right hand to burn through the webs.
  6. Use the Prison Key on the inner barred door.

7. Repair the prison mechanisms

  1. Search the right-hand cell for an Iron Rod. Use it to repair a broken lever on the route onward.
  2. Be ready for the large spider nearby; do not stand in front of it expecting ordinary hits to stagger it.
  3. Search behind the large web patch for another chest with a Small Key. Look up for the spider above the chest.
  4. On a lower right-hand route, find a campfire and sleeping bag before a floor trap. Set that respawn point if you need one.
  5. Continue to the door that needs three levers. Some mechanisms need Iron Rods, and the separate lever needs Chains.

8. Take the Pickaxe and collect Chains

  1. Return to the stairs near your original prison entry and descend the adjacent staircase one level farther.
  2. Open the door on that lower route; collect the Pickaxe and nearby Iron Rod. Watch for skeleton archers above.
  3. Use the Pickaxe on any yellow Goo Piles blocking the way. These also provide Clay.
  4. Climb the rope on the left side. Follow the small tunnel above it to a chest containing Nails and Chains.
  5. Return to the three-lever door, fit the Chains to the separate lever, finish any rod repairs and activate the levers.

9. Open the prison cells in the correct sequence

  1. Reach the elevator after the lever door. Ride up one floor and activate the switch in the only open cell.
  2. Ride back to the ground floor. Enter the newly open left cell and activate its switch.
  3. Ride back up one floor. Enter the cell just before the first switch cell and activate the third switch.
  4. Take the elevator to the top. Deal with the spider near the exit and climb the broken pillar ahead.

If you cannot reach the top route, revisit the cells in this order rather than repeating elevator rides.

10. Defeat the Giant Spider and claim the Tomato Gem

  1. At the arena, use the nearby pillar to gain height.
  2. Jump onto the Giant Spider's back and attack with a melee weapon while you can remain on top.
  3. After the fight, pick up the Tomato Gem and store it somewhere you can recover it.

That is the end of this early-game route. The dungeon continues after the Tomato Gem.
